European Data Centre Electrical Install Project

Passcomm delivers electrical ‘grey space’ installation project at major Hyperscale data centre in Europe

Project Overview

Passcomm was engaged as an electrical installation sub-contractor to deliver a “grey space” installation package at a major hyperscale data centre in Frankfurt, Germany. Working on behalf of the principal contractor, our in-house UK Data Centre team delivered and project managed the installation of power containment systems within one of Europe’s most demanding and precision-driven environments.

The project showcased our ability to mobilise a specialist engineering team across borders and deliver high-quality electrical installation work to the exacting standards required by global hyperscale operators.

The Challenge

The principal contractor needed a sub-contractor it could trust to deliver high-quality installation work in a precise and unforgiving environment, where there is little room for error and standards are uncompromising.

Several factors made the engagement demanding:

  • Time constraints meant resourcing the right calibre of engineers quickly was critical.
  • The European location added logistical complexity, both in deploying a skilled UK team and in coordinating on the ground in Frankfurt.
  • Moving products and materials across Europe introduced supply-chain and scheduling considerations that needed careful management to keep the programme on track.

The principal contractor required a partner who could absorb this complexity rather than add to it.

Our Solution

We mobilised a dedicated engineering team to Frankfurt, deploying experienced engineers who saw the installation through from start to finish. Rather than rotating personnel, the same high-quality team carried the work through to completion — ensuring consistency, accountability, and a single point of ownership throughout the project.

Our in-house UK Data Centre team delivered and project managed the power containment installation, applying the specialist expertise that hyperscale environments demand.

The engagement also demonstrated where future efficiencies can be unlocked:

  • Integrated project management — by adding Passcomm’s own project management on future projects, we can remove operational demands from the principal contractor, freeing them to focus on wider programme delivery.
  • European supply chain — through our mainland European supply base, we can source and move goods more efficiently to project locations, reducing cost and lead times.
  • Blended delivery model — UK-based data centre experts providing project management, paired with local in-market M&E labour, offers a route to greater cost efficiency for our clients on future engagements.

The Outcomes

Both the client and the principal contractor were satisfied with the quality of work delivered. The successful completion of the installation built sufficient confidence in our capability that the relationship has progressed — with further projects already kicked off for future delivery.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates Passcomm’s ability to deliver precise, high-quality electrical installation work within the demanding world of hyperscale data centres, even across international borders and under significant time pressure. By combining a committed UK engineering team with the logistical reach of a European supply chain, we offer principal contractors a dependable delivery partner.

More than a single successful installation, the engagement has laid the foundation for a longer-term relationship — one in which Passcomm’s integrated project management and in-market delivery model can drive operational efficiencies and cost savings on the data centre projects of the future.
