Passcomm works as a value-add channel partner for AFL Fujikura, designing, integrating, kitting and supplying bespoke fibre connectivity solutions for projects across the UK.
Many customers already trust AFL Fujikura products from previous projects, but some installation environments require a more tailored approach than a standard, off-the-shelf product can provide. We support these customers by adapting proven AFL components into bespoke assemblies that suit the technical, environmental and operational demands of the project.
These solutions have been supplied across telecoms, service provider, enterprise and industrial markets, including challenging environments such as offshore locations, underground infrastructure and trackside rail settings.
Customers often want the quality, consistency and performance of AFL Fujikura connectivity products, but need those products adapted to suit the specific conditions of their project.
In many cases, installation environments allow only short working windows. This creates a need for pre-configured, plug-and-play solutions that can be installed and commissioned quickly, reducing time on site and helping engineers work more efficiently.
Other projects require AFL connectivity products to be housed in more robust or specialist enclosures. For example, products originally designed for streetside telecoms environments may need to be adapted for coastal locations, underground rail environments or other demanding infrastructure settings.
A further challenge is standardisation. On large-scale projects, clients and contractors often want to standardise trays, components and installation methods across the whole network, while still meeting site-specific capacity and enclosure requirements.
Passcomm works closely with customers to understand the technical requirements, installation environment and long-term maintenance needs of each project before developing a tailored AFL-focused solution.
One example involved Network Rail and Neos Networks, who required a compact, wall-mounted ODF solution for managing multiple 432F SWR cables in trackside locations. The project team also wanted to standardise fibre tray usage across the programme by using AFL Apex trays.
Our solution was to integrate AFL Apex trays into a larger, already PADS approved enclosure capable of handling the additional capacity required by the high fibre-count cables being deployed across the network.
This approach allowed the customer to retain the benefits of standardised AFL components while gaining a more suitable enclosure format for the project environment. It also provided a practical, engineer-friendly solution for fibre management in trackside locations.
Alongside design and integration, we provided kitting, assembly and supply support, ensuring the finished products were prepared for efficient deployment by the customer’s installation teams.
The bespoke AFL-based products were approved by the client for use within the network.
By integrating AFL Apex trays into a higher-capacity, PADS approved enclosure, we helped provide a practical alternative to more expensive chamber-based solutions. This allowed the ODFs to be installed in-building rather than requiring fibre engineers to work externally in chamber environments.
This created several benefits for the project. Installation could be carried out in a more controlled environment, the products were better protected over the long term, and the integrity of the fibre network was supported by improved accessibility and enclosure design.
The success of the solution demonstrates Passcomm’s ability to adapt trusted AFL Fujikura components into bespoke, project-ready products for demanding infrastructure environments.
This work demonstrates Passcomm’s role as a specialist AFL Fujikura integration and value-add channel partner for UK projects.
By combining AFL product knowledge with in-house design, kitting and assembly expertise, we help customers deploy trusted fibre connectivity products in environments where standard off-the-shelf solutions may not be suitable.
The result is a practical, tailored and installation-ready approach to fibre connectivity, particularly for projects that require robust enclosures, standardised components, reduced installation time and long-term network resilience.
