Passcomm worked with a major Tier 1 principal contractor in the UK nuclear power market to design, kit and supply bespoke fibre connectivity enclosures.
The contractor approached us after identifying a similar product on the company’s website and recognising the potential to adapt it for use on a power station project. The requirement was for a robust, long-life fibre management solution built from high-quality stainless steel and designed around the practical needs of engineers working in a demanding utilities environment.
We worked closely with the contractor throughout the design process, developing a bespoke enclosure that integrated CommScope fibre connectivity components to support reliable fibre management, network resilience and future maintainability.
The client environment placed significant demands on both the enclosure materials and the internal fibre management design.
As the enclosures were intended for use within a power station setting, they needed to be manufactured from high-quality materials and built for a long service life, with an expected lifespan of 25 years or more. Durability, reliability and long-term performance were therefore key considerations from the outset.
The internal fibre design also needed careful planning. The client required a solution that would be simple for engineers to manage, re-enter and maintain in the future, while protecting live circuits and avoiding unnecessary disruption to the network.
This meant the final product had to combine a robust stainless steel enclosure with a clear, accessible and well-organised internal layout. The system needed to support best-in-class fibre management without creating complexity for installation or future maintenance teams.
We engaged in a detailed design consultation with the contractor, reviewing the client’s requirements and adapting an existing product concept into a bespoke stainless steel fibre management enclosure.
The enclosure was designed to provide the strength and durability required for a power station environment, while also offering a practical internal layout for fibre connectivity. We integrated CommScope fibre connectivity components to support high-quality fibre routing, protection and management within the enclosure.
Throughout the process, the design was reviewed with both the customer and client to ensure all requirements were understood and addressed before final sign-off. This collaborative approach allowed us to refine the enclosure layout, confirm material suitability and ensure the product would be practical for deployment on site.
Once approved, the enclosures were kitted and supplied ready for installation.
The finished enclosures were well received by the customer, with positive feedback on both the quality of the product and the ease of deployment.
The internal layout was recognised as clear, practical and well suited to fibre management in a demanding power environment. By combining stainless steel construction with high-quality CommScope connectivity components, wedelivered a solution that supported resilience, maintainability and long-term use.
The success of the project also created scope for the product to be used on future schemes, as well as opportunities for Passcomm to support new bespoke designs and additional requirements across the contractor’s wider client portfolio.
This project demonstrates Passcomm’s ability to design and supply bespoke fibre connectivity enclosures for demanding utilities and power environments.
By combining decades of Passcomm fibre connectivity experience with a collaborative design process and high-quality component selection, we delivered a stainless steel enclosure solution built for durability, accessibility and long-term network resilience.
The result was a practical, engineer-friendly fibre management product that met the client’s requirements and provided a strong foundation for future project opportunities.
